Posted - 17/03/2009 : 19:46:07 hey everyone! ive been researching brb's for a while and found your forum very helpful, so i thought id go ahead and join. i own a ball python 'scooter' (1 and 1/2 years old), babysitting my cousin's ball for four months 'queen leon' (3 year old), and now that my cousin is back in town, i plan to get a brb within the next couple weeks.
quick questions. i have a 36inx12"x17" glass cage (us units, sorry). i currently have a heat mat attached to the side, and was planning on getting a ceramic bulb with a thermostat. 1. does anyone know what wattage bulb i should use to give me enough heat?? 2. also wondering what kind of fixture you should use for ceramic bulbs? dome light? wire light?? 3. the shop i often go to has the "eco earth" substrate in "compressed bricks" and "loose"... any difference?? one cheaper/easier to use than the other??
thanks!!! |

I'll have to do some research on the ceramic thing. You probably need a similar wattage to the one I use for my Royal, but I'll have to wait until I get home so I can have a look what that is.
I can answer the Eco-earth one though, so I'm, not totally useless today I think the compressed one is just more compacted so it's easier to store and carry. All you do with it is soak it in some water and it will expand and give you some good quality substrate.
Apart from that they will both be the same, so go for whichever is cheaper |
