Hey all!!

I'm new to the Rainbow Boa scene, but wow what a place to be eh? These snakes are fascinating.. Little fact about me, when I was 5, I got a book for Christmas about snakes, and there was a Brazilian on the front cover, and I was in love with it for many a year... My mum eventually gave in to all my pestering and I got a cornsnake for my 12th birthday, Connie is coming up to 11yo and still alive and kicking right now!

However it's only now I've been able to pluck up the courage to get the snake I'd always wanted.. And now I own Jade - a lovely Brazilian Rainbow. Chose the name because I thought it sounded Rainforesty and green.. forgive me for being cheesy! Not as if Connie was particularly imaginative..

I'm a student at Loughborough University in my final year studying Product Design and Technology BSc, and just so you all know, my final year project I have decided will be to build, programme and develop a self-sustaining terrarium akin (but building on) the current exo-terra glass terrariums. Essentially climate control for reptiles and amphibians, it'll be aimed at mainly the new boa owners, but also for the more experienced when they're a tad busy! I'll be putting a few posts up soon asking for some advice and opinions on what you'd like to see in a Terrarium like this! It will be able to sustain it's own humidities and temperatures Via the use of ultrasonic foggers and heats mats/UV lights/ceramic heaters all on specific time intervals, all managed by thermostats and the like.

Look forward to hearing your inputs soon!

Cheers!

Oscar

I wholeheartedly support any gem-themed name, just on principle. ;-)

Ha ha ha! I love the name Jade. It IS very "foresty" and "green" sounding.

I agree, that would be wonderful. The kickers will be cost and complexity. Please keep us updated!

PS: "Jade" is not a cheesy name...not that I'm, umm, biased or anything. ;-)

Wow, Oscar, that sounds fantastic. I can't wait to see how your project progresses. Something like that would definitely be worth the costs if it worked well. I know so many people who would love to have a BRB, but are afraid they will not be able to control the environment enough to provide well enough for them. Something like this would be awesome.
