Hi peeps and peepesses,,
I just want to run through my set up to make sure things are just right.
i use a heatmat covering a 3rd of the tank and to compliment the warm side i have stuck a small heat mat to the side of the terrarium positioned high up to keep the ambient temp up.
Daytime (whilst at work)
Warm side ground level temp has a high of 78F and a low of 74F
Warm side high level temp has a high of 78F and a low of 75F
I also have a probe on the heat mat on the bottom of the terr which is set to 83F
Cool side has a low of 67F and a high of 74F
Warm side mid level has a humidity low of 72% and a high of 89%
cool side mid level has a humidity low of 61% and a high of 87%
Night time the temp drops by 1-2 degrees max! and the humidity is as daytime.
So you know, i am using an exo terra 90x45x60 terrarium

Going down the list….
Steve: in general, the setup sounds fine. I would, however, move your temps on both sides up by two-three degrees (so, to get a range of 80 to 70). Otherwise it sounds great!
Ash: there is actually no such thing as “too big” of a tank. Nature is the biggest “viv” of all, and little snakes do just fine there. The important things is to provide hiding places where the baby feels safe and snug, as well as can meet its temp and humidity needs.
Steve: great job on the humidity. Hmm: extra large apartment, climate controlled, multiple rooms, maid service, room service….when can *I* move in?!?!?

I read over everything you posted and it sounds okay to me. You might want to bring your warm side's high to around 80, just to give your snake a bit more room to thermo-regulate and choose between a little warmer or a little cooler. I wouldn't go higher than 80, though, since they do prefer a little bit cooler environment. But giving her the option to choose something warmer would be good. Everything else sounds good to me, but maybe some of the others can chime in with some better advice.  |

I bought some thick perspex and cut it to fit the mesh on the top of the tank. I left a qtr inch space all around for air circulation.
I spray once in the morn and once in the eve.
I mix the wood chips with spagnum moss and use coco bark on the warm end and cover with orchid bark.
3 out of 4 hides have plenty of spagnum moss in them and i place spagnum moss all around the edge of the tank.

I agree with you on that Oscar but Steve may be spraying daily also to keep humidity levels up that high also you could try covering up your mesh top cling film or a damp towel
Steve you say you have a 90x45x60 exo terra - ain't that abit too big for a hatchling if i have right thats a 3ft tank for a lil hatchie which could stress it out unless its packed out.. 
I know mate, i bought it an couldnt resist putting her in. I also bought an eextra large exo terra cave hide and i also put a couple of rubs in. She is very very active at night tho! |
