Reading all the splurge on brb's im looking at getting a snake from this years youngsters. Am i correct in thinking that they really should be housed in a small enclosure ? I have a royal from this years brood and she is 6 months old and is housed in a plastic container 350mm x 150mm x 140mm approx. In this is a hide water bowl and two rocks to help her shed.Half the RUB is over a heat mat . Would a similar setup be adequate for a new Brazilian Rainbow.
If so how would i climatise the humidity required ?
Any help or comments appreciated

Sounds fine just make sure your coconut hide with moss in it is damp but not dripping wet.  |

It sounds good! Just make sure to measure the temp at the surface level, just above the heat pad but below the bark, as your Brazilian could tunnel to seek greater heat. Good luck, and keep us posted! |

Larger cages are perfectly fine -- these snakes survive in nature just fine, after all -- so long as you provide a hide small enough for the animal to feel secure in. That means the baby can press up again the sides or substrate. I tend to go furniture light (no plants, rolls, or rocks), but that's because I have about 25 cages now to clean. :D A large flat water bowl helps mazimize air-to-water surface area, which promotes high humidity. A moist moss hide is a must as a humidity retreat of last resort. The one final aspect is that you need to minimize air exchange with the outside world, as otherwise all your nice humidity will go right out into the room. Screen tops are therefore a bad idea -- if you have one, cover it with something like a piece of plexi. A small area for ventilation is just fine, as snakes do not need a lot. They do like it confined, although maybe not as much as a royal would because they seem to be more adventurous and active.
A rub would be fine, just ensure that there's adeqeute ventilation in the lid and spray a couple of times a day.
A damp hide is useful too. |

Hi , Yes you can house them in a RUB , with two hides one of them being a moss hide , water bowl , fake plants , a rock to help for shedding , few loo rolls , and for substrate i use orchid bark which locks in the humidity and only requires a few sprays of water in it every day or every 2 days. Hope this helps. |
