I recently a purchased a rainbow boa (not on impulse, I understand well enough how to care for it) and I'm using bark as a substrate, which I've never used before with a high humidity species, and I was wondering about maintenance.

I know it has to be changed periodically, but I wanted specifics: spot change for defecation, or just change the whole thing out and how often.

Thanks

i do the same with a collinder but i allways pour a full kettle of boiling water after rinsing to kill as much bacteria as possible and change my substrate every 4-5 weeks

Hi , Bark is fine to use as i use this , I spot clean every day or every two days and i do a major clean out every 6 to 7 weeks. Also bark is very good with the high humidity and i would just spray few squirts of water every day to keep the humidity up if you don't have a humidifyer or a fogger.
