Hey all, just wanted to get to know everyones experiences with RB's, and their "nippy" tendancies. After how long do you find this nippiness subsides? My brb Jade is 99% fine, perfectlyok with being handled, however when something moves in her peripherals or tracks her (eg, a camera) she goes nuts at it. And then is fine when she realises its not going to eat her

What are other peoples experiences with how long it takes for them to totally wise up? I know it varies, is sort of common sense in the way they are treated respectfully and down to the individual snake, but I thought i'd just ask the question

Actually, the nippiness will never *completely* subside.

However, I've found that it decreases vastly with two factors: age -- babies nip a lot in their first few weeks, whereas adults rarely do -- and familiarity -- once handled/photographed enough, this rarely bothers them.

Conditions can also play a role: I find that when my Brazilians are released to "explore," they tend to not always look kindly on being "recaptured." Again, this seems to fade with age, but this one can still be seen in adults.

Finally, as others have noted, sudden or unexpected movements within their field of vision can produce nips as well. Never wise to startle your snake. ;-)

Not really sure how long it will take for nippiness to subside, I've only ever had Zippy nip me once!
I was cleaning out his rub, I lifted the hide from his cool end thinking he was in his other hide, he must have been sleeping & was pushed up against the inside of the hide, he fell (only a couple of inches) from under the hide I'd lifted as he landed he struck at me catching me between my thumb & forefinger.

My OH's Bca Aymara is quite viv defensive & great care is required to get her out without being bitten, she will 'S' up, periscope & constantly track your hand, its usually easier to hook her out although once out she is fine being handle but does like to grip something with her tail for security.

My two are 99.9% fine when handling but the slightest object or something opening up then they start biting also i have noticed when they feel threatened while handling well Mayhem does a whole body buzz kinda feel when you touch him and Bow just stays in the strike position and keeps trying to bite the object also i have learned is don't make any fast or sudden movement in front of there head they hate it and try to attack .
