Posted - 02/11/2012 : 20:30:29 For these next short entries, we are profiling our four holdbacks from the 2011 Hills-Alex litter. Born on September 14, 2011, all four just hit their one-year birthdays, and are shaping up nicely. We will cover two babies a week over the next two weeks. This is part two of the four-part series.
Morganite is the little diva of the litter. She is the camera-savvy one (having featured in her own Easter photo spread), and still manages to surprise with shifts in attitude, from being a sweetheart one day to not wanting to have anything to do with you on another. She also had a temper tantrum at one point, deciding I was bothering her too soon and spitting her meal back up in retaliation -- the only Living Gems baby I’ve ever had do so. (She recovered fine, and has never done so again.)
Here is Morganite as of her birth in September 2011:

Here she is at six months in March 2012:

And here she is at one year in September 2012:

Inside

She now weighs 240 grams (up from 185 when I wrote this), placing her about even with the usual growth curve for a Brazilian of her age. Going forward, we hope she will develop into a solid red specimen.

Posted - 12/11/2012 : 21:26:48 No worries on highjacking -- snake health comes first! I envy your ability to order custom sizes, wish I had that ability here! I think that may be a better route than changing your feeding day, as it causes less disruption to the schedules of all involved. Good luck, and keep us posted! |

Posted - 10/11/2012 : 09:26:00 Thanks Cliff, I was beginning to think they were a little below the average growth rate. They are both on what are sold to me as chubs, bigger than pinks. Neither of my two look big enough to take the next size up so may increase the frequency of feeding for a while - I do have the ability to order rat babies at a weight I want so may go that route. (just needs me to be more organised, lol) Apologies for 'highjacking' your thread on your beautiful holdback Morganite. |

Posted - 05/11/2012 : 21:38:16 Thank you both! Sue, 100 grams seems light, but some grow more slowly than others...I have several 2010s that are only around 450 grams, with others from the year in the 700s...a big range!!! At 100 grams, I would be feeding them rat fuzzies (the size in between pinkie and pup) once a week. |
