Hiya,
I know this stuff is routine, but my 12 ltr RUB is currently running at 91% humidity, 25'C cold end, 26.8 - 27'C hot end, the stat is set to 28'C but the ProRep heatmat seems to be struggling to maintain it. Are these temperatures and humidity satisfactory?

I'd say the temperatures are okay. The humidity is a tad high for my taste but I tend to err on the side of caution with that because mine can submerse in water basins at-will if they're feeling a little dry and I personally prefer that over high humidity in an enclosed space, but that's just me and I never said I was a stable kinda character :)
If there is *really* good ventilation, I'll up humidity, but I'm cautious with it if I'm using tubs. The main reason for that is living in Canada - when I open a tub that's warm and humid, it fogs-up the windows in my igloo and the temp/humidity difference can be quite a shock to the poor snake inside which can makes it more susceptible to RI. Because I take my little cuties out so often and let them truck around for hours, I personally go with lower humidity, but that may not work for others, so let's watch and see what the others find works best for them... |

Currently struggling with the temps...it dropped to 35.5'C, with the heat mat under 3/4, I even pushed the RUB completely onto the mat and it still dropped this low, the heat mat hasn't switched off at all. It's like it can't heat it up!
There is a lot of condensation, which worried me a touch, but the care guides warn that babies are much more susceptible to dehydration. Just confused as I can heat Vin's faun, wish is extremly ventilated, easily, but less ventilated RUB is proving difficult! |

| 35.5C ? That's like 96 degrees, that's way too hot even for babies. Babies are good around 88 or so, adults 80, dropping to as low as 70 at night, they'll be fine with that. If you have condensation on the sides of the rub, then it's humid enough. I run 75-80% on the humidity. If you meant 25.5 which is around 77, 78, your fine if you work on getting it a little higher. If it's a baby try to maintain it a little higher (85'ish) but your not going to run into any issue if it dropped to that for a little while. Rainbows are much hardier than you might think! |

Sounds like you are on top of it! Good luck with getting your temps stabilized and where you want them. Your baby is lucky to have such a caring owner. My Pyr's name is Rio.
Man fingers aren't all that bad by the way, lol.

Awww thank you! Temps have now stabilised to 27 - 28'C hot end and 25 - 26'C cold end  quite happy with that! Just want her to be happy

I'd add two more bits of advice: one, don't put the heat mat under the entire viv (in case something ever goes wrong you want a place your snake can escape the heat); and two, try to get a little more variance between the hot and cool ends (the latter needs to drop some).

Hiya,
Thanks for the guidance, now that the stat has been tweaked the mat is back to its original under 3/4 of the RUB position, and the temps gradient is now 27-28 at the hot end and 23-24 at the cool end, maintaining 90% humidity, is this a sutable range? Thanks |
