Ok, tried to feed Rio tonight and peeked in at her 4 hours later and she's absolutely uninterested in the fluffs! Opened up the RUB to ensure the mice hadn't got stuck to the plastic dish (they had a little) and she came up to look out the RUB top.

I braced myself for a potential strike as I put the tongs in to check the mice but she just watched me, so I lifted the fluff and waggled it. She came over, nuzzled the mouse, then tried to climb up the tongs! She then wandered off to bed, came out to look at the fluff again and and then went to her hide.

Is it normal for a BRB to be so placid? And this uninterested in food after 3 weeks of not eating? Obviously I'm glad she's not biting me, she seems so calm but not hungry!

Don't worry about it. They can be odd little eaters at first. My little Argentine is funny in that it's interested, but when it actually opens it's mouth and the fur touches the inside of it's mouth, it backs away.

It's done that several times, and when that happens it loses interest so I just wait several days and try again. If it repeats the same thing, it loses interest. It'll eventually get hungry enough to eat (which is exactly how it's been going so far), and it seems to get a little better at understanding what to do with food each time. This means that particular young'un doesn't eat too frequently yet, but it still grows like a weed.

One thing I can say for sure about it's eating habits is that it most certainly prefers larger prey over smaller items. Doesn't seem to have any interest in small stuff at all, but it shows a lot of interest in full-grown mice. I'm not shy about feeding larger items, so that doesn't bother me and it's actually a lot easier to get it to eat with bigger things, so I just go with it's flow.

Thanks for the reassurrance when I peeked in last night and waggled the fluff, I decided to quickly brain one of them gross but it worked when Vin got fussy. She's eaten that one, but left the other!

Apparently her brothers and sisters are all eating 3 fluffs a piece but she's only ever taken 2. Not sure I can offer her something larger yet...once she's digested and I can get her out for a picture you'll be able to see the size of her Seems I've got a greedy male corn and a fussy little lady!

Well glad to hear it got something in it's little belly!

If it's any help to determine what size my Argentine is and compare meal sizes (eats full-grown but not massive mice), here's the last set of shots I posted here, but new one will be taken once it finishes it's moult. http://www.therainbowboa.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1050

Glad to hear she ate for you, Newbie! I had three juveniles refuse this week as well. One of them struck and coiled, the other two ignored their small rats entirely. Shrug...they'll get hungry sooner or later.

The baron refused his rat fuzzy the first couple of times. Think he just wasn't keen on the switch from mice, but he took it eventually. Like Cliff said, they''ll eat if they're hungry. I'm sure you know snakes can go ages without food, so as long as she seems healthy and isn't losing weight there's no real need to get concerned.

Thanks everyone she seems inquisitive and happy enough! Maybe she would benefit from one decent rat fuzzy instead of trying 2 mouse fuzzies? She's nearly finished digesting so I'll be able to get her out and have a good look at her size soon!

Some animals do prefer one rodent type over another. I definitely have ones who prefer mice over all else, so you might give a rat a try!
