hi not a rainbow boa but a boa lol pick her up in 4 weeks any advice or suggestions that you dont get on care sheets would be great thanks :)

What the caresheet wont tell you is how much of a pain in the rear it is to get one of these guys back in the viv if they dont want to

| it does both reverse stripe and stripe are boa patterns but in your case it wont be visual, very nice |

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you got ya a young bci/redtail! I have a 7' one. I've also got a smaller hypo who is like a puppy dog. He will come to me from across the room. The big one is great, and doesn't give me too much **** when I go to put him back in his home. But the sheer size and breadth they get to is certainly worth considering. I'd handle him/her as much as you can, so that when that time comes he'll still be your "baby".

Nice thing is they're hardy and can deal with room temp and humidity, nothing special needed for them as long as you keep your house comfortable (around 80) or so. They don't need lamps, but if it is going to get cold in the winter (ambient temps) then a little heat pad in one corner for him to gravitate to would be a good idea.

Yes, I thought that would be my problem too, but you'll get used to the personality of your new boa, and between the two of you will come up with an agreement on a good amount of handling that keeps snakey tame, without stressing it out too much!
Congrats again. They are addictive. I have just one snake at the moment, and I already have a wish list of different species for further down the line once I have a little more experience... |

DTW here's one of my 7' getting him a live feed, lol. They strike fast, that's why starting when they're young with everything is always a good idea!

On the large one, I always put on a motorcycle leather glove and put it down to him so he can see that I'm coming in and not feeding him. Once I see he's recognized what's going on I take off the right hand glove and pick him up and all is well. But I do respect that he needs to know I'm coming. The smaller two I don't do that with them yet.
Markni is right you guys will fall into a rhythm. Since I have 3 I have stagger the time between them all but all of them get personal time, even if it's just coming out and hanging out on the couch with me watching television. My little bci likes to slither down to my feet wrap around then poke his head between my toes and look back at me. I actually have some pics of him doing that but didn't figure anyone wanted to see my feet LOL.

Lol I bet there is! I love how snakes have their own personality and do genuinely seem to bond with u, we had a corn that would always choose my wife over me couldn't wait to go curl up on her knee, this is a big step up but I can't wait :-)
We did have it suggested to us that every time we take her out for some play time we touch her on the top of the head first before picking her up so she associates that with fun time and obviously don't do it at feeding times, never heard of snake conditioning before lol but the guy has kept and bred them for years so maybe worth a try? |

Snake conditioning is used yes but normally for the larger sakes burms retics etc, dont see any harm in trying it with your boa though, Although I suggest using something other than your hand to condition the snake, it may be grumpy. |

Just an update, we couldn't wait and ended up bringing her home today lol :)
She's great and really active climbing all over her new home, not the most graceful though lol |
