| how do u guys house your rainbow boas? i now they need high humidity but how do u do this in a viv or whatever u house them in?? |

Absolutely!
I used Boaphile brand cages, specifically the "421T" model. This cage measures four feet long by two feet deep by (just under) one foot tall, and has two heavy clear doors set in front. Importantly, it also comes with a removeable divider. That means I can use it for one or two animals as my needs shift. Babies and juveniles get a half-cage (two by two), and adults get a full cage (four by two). I also buy all cages with underbelly heat preinstalled. No lights, however, as Brazilians are primarily nocturnal animals, and I used automated room lighting for that. The cages stack five to six tall in my home, with each stack set on a matching base pedestal.

Huge apologies, real life kept me tied up.
Attached, please find some quick shots of my cages and setups. Apologies as well for the some of the smudges on cages, these were taken during a "working week."
This is the top half of one of my cage stacks. I need to retake it sometime with better lighting so I get less room reflection.
This is a close-up of a single adult cage. Each adult gets a four by two foot cage all to itself. First left half…
Then right half…
This is a closeup of an adult hide (with some of the moss removed):
(I use the same container for a water bowl…though, obviously, without the hole…. ;-)

Nice setups, guys. I really love how "natural" yours looks, Welly. Marius doesn't have anything fanciful, I went very practical for him...since I got him as a hatchling. This has been his home for the past several months. I keep the moss really damp with daily spritzes of warm water, plus he has a warm and cool side water dish. His hides aren't fancy...they were made out of butter tubs...though he occasionally sits in the plastic "rock" looking thing. For the most part, though, he just stays buried in the moss and does his exploring in the evenings. The tub was purchased at our local Walmart. I drilled the holes myself and provided an under-tank heater for his warm side. I keep his humidity up to about 80-85% and it works easily with the two water dishes (one specifically over a portion of the heater for evaporation). Anyway, here's his humble home:

| I use a large exoterra type viv for mine. Glass/plastic with good ventilation is defintiely the way forward. Wood just warps over time |

Why thank you, Ash! They are made by Boaphile Plastics, and I urge you to take a look -- they make great stuff: lightweight, hold humidity well, can have heat and locks preinstalled, and are inexpensive compared to most other vendors.
(Just for the record, my pictures are actually of a cage stack rather than a rack. That rack is coming soon, though, for juveniles only.) |
