Posted - 10/05/2011 : 20:14:14 I have just bought a baby BRB it was born 28/02/11, as it is still settling in I have yet to get it measured and on the scales, but I was wondering if the RUB that I have it in, for now, is large enough ? it is 14" long, 11" wide and 6" tall.
Also, I would like confirmation on the information I have collected is correct .... temps 70-86 F and also humidity 80+ (but the more the better) Mine is currently running at 91%, which I believe is good for a baby BRB.
I have orchid bark as a substrate, and moisture tub (sandwich box with hole in), and toilet roll, as an extra hide and a water bowl.
............ I will get some photo's up when the new addition is settled!
Thank you Wendy

Posted - 18/05/2011 : 20:04:45 Wendy, for feeding, I've heard from multiple sources that these animals are prone to obesity, so be careful about giving too much. I offer appropriately-sized meals only weekly to babies and young juveniles, and only every other week to older juveniles and adults. This approach has the nice side benefit of giving you a set feeding day, which makes scheduling easier.
As for "bathroom habits" ;-), if you're really concerned, a good method is to specific a short period (say, one month) and record how often you find waste during that period. This will not only serve as a double check on proper digestion, but will also give you a framework going forward to judge your snake's habits. Joe is absolutely correct that it varies by individual snake.
Good luck! |

Posted - 18/05/2011 : 13:42:02 Wendy, I've seen them go 2, and even 3 meals before a poo, some do this regularly. |

I picked up a red LED spotlight from an aquarium shop yesterday so will try that on his RUB soon and hopefully I'll get to see SOMETHING sometimes! lol |

Posted - 18/05/2011 : 09:37:58 I am currently feeding 1 rat pup every 5-7 days, although with the speed that it is gone I am wondering if I should be ffeding 2 every week, of course I am going 'poop' hunting, to check that the last meal has gone before a next one is offered. I cannot wait to get a proper viv set-up though with a night light to watch him! |

Posted - 14/05/2011 : 09:19:08 Rocky Van Boa has settled in well to his/her new enclosure, I took the old RUB out and everything seems great. Came out into the feeding tank last night and ate another rat pup, so must not be too worried!
Just wish that I could see him/her a little more, boy they like to hide! |

Huh. Bit similar to mine, who is Baron Von Rockula! lol I usually refer to him as 'the baron'.
Named after the lead in the brilliant comedy/musical/pantomime 'Vampires Rock'. |

Not a great photo, does not really show the colours, as yet no-name!

I weighed BRB baby and it was 53 grams, did not really like to mess around to try and measure it this time, but as you can see I have put the old RUB inside the new one and going to watch what happens, just keeping my eye on temps and humidity temps again now |
