Hi everyone ive just got myself a gorgeous BRB and was wondering what the prefered food source is, Is it the same as royals where rats would be better? She is currently taking large fluffs or small mice (suddenly started strike feeding a few feeds ago). Should i try her on small rat pups or stick with the mice?

While I don't discredit anything anyone else has said, I was told by my breeder friend to feed my BRB mice up until they had to go to a larger size than a jumbo mouse. The reason being is because mice have more calcium to build stronger bones...while rats are more fatty and cause them to gain weight too quickly (which for a BRB is not always healthy). Once they reach small rat size...their bodies have built strong bones and can then use the additional fat from rats to build up a little size. You still don't want them to get too big, though, as it is very easy to make your BRB overweight....which can cause additional problems healthwise.

Just my two cents.

Thanks everyone.
Will get a few small rat pups and try to alternate mice and rats for a while if she takes them.
