So, my Ossi has been hiding recently, but it seems that he had a totally different idea to the rest of us.
Imagine waking up at 2 am, only too see a limp looking, vaguely snake-shaped thing hanging from a branch. Upon further investigation though I see Ossi on the floor of his viv, looking up at me and flicking his tongue, whilst some pieces of snake skin are wrapped around the branch's limbs.
Yeah okay, he didn't shed in one whole piece but I believe that's due to the old skin getting caught on the branches. I had absolutely no idea that he was going to do this so soon! I never noticed his eyes because he was too busy hiding all the time. From what I could see, he doesn't have and lose skin. I'm a bit astounded, and well sleepy and I have to change the paper and clean up the skin. Fun. :P |

Well, that certainly explains the hiding, lol! The skin can certainly break during the shed process; one of my big females did that the other day. Just make sure the skin has eyecaps and a tail and you/he should be fine.
Yes, feeding the day after a shed is fine. |

| I saw the tail, but not the head. A couple piece of it was well rolled up so I don't know if the head part got torn up. I looked him over and didn't see any flakes of skin on him, and his eyes and head look clear and nice |

| Sometimes you have to unroll it to check -- kind of annoying and somewhat gross, but well worth the effort to check, especially when they are young. Smart move looking him over for flakes and clear eyes, though -- good job! |

Marius is very famous for rolling his shed skin up into a tight ring.  I am not grossed out over handling it (even when still damp), but I know a lot of people find it disgusting. Someone on another forum told me that they usually take their discarded skins and place them into a plastic tub of warm water. Once it has softened up, it is a lot easier to unroll and check for eye caps. Just a thought.

| i think the shed is just another thing that u have to get used to aswell as pooh but for those 2 times every so often, its more than worth it |
