| I have been breeding my female BRB and ever since she lost her virginity a month ago. She has been soaking none stop. She does not have mites and the ambient temp is 80-82F, basking temp is 90F, and humidity is 87. Anyone know what it can be? I have talked to Jeff Clark(Rainbow breeder) and he mention she may just enjoy being in the water and the water temp is just right. I believe it could be, but I am concern if it could be anything else. Maybe someone here may have had this happen? Any help is appriciated. Thanks! |

Way too hot!!! Temps over 85F can kill these snakes. Drop her basking spot down to 82F (some keepers go as high as 84F), and the low end to 70F. She can then choose whichever spot in that range she wants. Your humidity is fine. Jeff is a great guy and knows his stuff perfectly, surprised he didn't comment on the basking temp!
As for the soaking, my adults go in regularly -- though mostly after eating and before shedding. I've had one soak for days on end, but never a full month.

| Ok, will do. Honestly, I hardly use the basking light since I also use the under tank heat. The basking light usually only on when I want to observe the snake for a few hours. I will change the bulb to a lower wattage. Thank you Snakesitter. :) |

If you are using the light only for viewing, you might consider a non-heating red bulb. Some people say that the snake can't tell it is on, and as Brazilians dislike light, that means your snake will be more likely to venture (or stay!) out.
By the way, I hope I did not come across too strongly above, I've just seen a few high temp posts in a compressed time period.

| Oh No, u didn't. I am very cautious to who owns a BRB myself. I jsut feel some people are not willing to learn and keep up with the upkeep. I fully understand how delicate these snakes are. :) |
